Happy Tails #3 | Zoe

Here’s the third installment in the “Happy Tails” feature. The intent is to showcase dogs (and sometimes cats) living the good life after they were adopted from Miami-Dade Animal Services. There are a lot of people who work very hard to help save as many animals as possible from MDAS so hopefully some of them will get to see what all their hard work is for – finding loving, permanent homes for the homeless dogs and cats that wind up at the shelter.

You can visit http://www.miamidade.gov/animals/ to find out how to adopt your new best friend too!

This week’s star is Zoe. She is a 3 year old Pomeranian mix adopted from MDAS in November of 2011. Zoe’s human mom, Kookie, is a big advocate for homeless animals and works very hard to help as many dogs and cats at MDAS as she can. I asked her some questions about Zoe:

What made you decide to adopt a dog from a shelter?
I decided to adopt from MDAS after starting volunteering there for my college program. I had been there 1 month before she came in as an owner surrender for the second time around.

What made you pick this particular dog?
Zoe was an owner surrender twice when I found her in a corner cage crying loudly 🙁 … Being a volunteer there I knew owner surrenders had no chance so I knew I had to save her. The next day I was at the shelter at 6:30 am to adopt her. 🙂

How was the transition period when the dog was adjusting to their new home?
When I brought Zoe home I only had a 7 year old Chihuahua and they got along immediately and now are inseparable. Zoe adjusted very well and wouldn’t leave my side at all. 2 years later she is continuously showing me how grateful she is for saving her but the truth is she saved me. 🙂

What was the most fun thing you learned about your new dog after you brought them home?
The most fun thing I learned about Zoe is how she loves to eat my underwear. LOL. I have to be very careful leaving them out. 🙂 haha

What is your dog’s favorite thing to do?
Zoe loves to play with squeaky toys and loves to play hide and seek with me. 🙂 And yes she literally waits for me to hide and then she looks for me.  🙂 LOL.  She also loves car rides and to snuggle. 🙂

Would you adopt again from a shelter or recommend it to others?
YESSSSSSS!!!! I will definitely adopt again from the shelter and soon. 🙂 and YESSSSSSS I recommend for others to do it too, you will be saving a life by adopting a beating heart that wouldn’t be beating if it wasn’t for you !!!! Adoption is the ONLY option !!!!! Hundreds of innocent cats and dogs are waiting for you DSC_5268-EditDSC_5314DSC_5332DSC_5337DSC_5340-Edit
