Here’s the 7th installment in the “Happy Tails” feature. The intent is to help create a positive image of shelter pets. There are still many misconceptions and negative beliefs held by the public that are barriers to adoption. By highlighting successful adoptions I aim to show that you can find healthy, loving dogs and cats at Miami-Dade Animal Services.
You can visit http://www.miamidade.gov/animals/ to find out how to adopt your new best friend too!
This weeks star is Mayo, a 4 month old Terrier mix puppy. I asked his owners, Thomas & Gina, some questions about Mayo and their experience adopting from a shelter.
What is your dog’s name and age and when did you adopt her?
Mayo, 4 months old. Adopted her when she was only 5 weeks old in November.
What made you decide to adopt a dog from a shelter?
Honestly, we did not even think about adopting a dog, we were looking to buy until we saw an instagram post from Miami-Dade Animal Services. After adopting Mayo, it changed our whole perspective about adopting and we know that we made the right choice!
What made you pick this particular dog?
We picked Mayo because she was the smallest, and calmest puppy in the cage while her brothers and sisters stepped all over her.
How was the transition period when your dog was adjusting to their new home?
The transition period was a good experience for all of us.
What was the most fun thing you learned about your new dog after you brought them home? The most fun thing we learned about Mayo after bringing her home was how fast it was to train her to sit, shake, and high five.
What is your dog’s favorite thing to do?
Mayos favorite thing to do is give high fives, give kisses, and take baths!
Would you adopt again from a shelter or recommend it to others?
We would deffintly adopt from the shelter again and would recommend adopting from a shelter! “Don’t shop, Adopt!”
