Pet Photography Project 52 Week 11 : Favorite Song

Welcome to another week of the Pet Photography Project 52 blog circle! This week’s topic is “Favorite Song”. This was a fun and challenging topic. I think most people would be hard pressed to pick one single song as their favorite, and I’m no exception. But there is definitely a top 10 list, which my choice fits in for me.

I choose the song “Shelter” by Ray Lamontagne. He’s an incredible folk/blues singer/songwriter. You can listen to it here: https://goo.gl/niWkKn. Although the song may be about heartache and loss, it’s the chorus that I love:

Listen when
All of this around us will fall over

I tell you what we’re gonna do
Hey, you will shelter me, my love
And I, I will shelter you
I will shelter you

When I hear these words I think about rescuing animals. “You will shelter me, my love, and I will shelter you”. It makes me think of all the happy tails of animals being rescued and adopted into loving homes. They are being “sheltered and loved” by the new owners and in many ways the animals are “sheltering and loving” their new owners by providing so much love and happiness in a sometimes harsh world.

I choose to feature a good friend of mine, Jackie, and the 2 dogs she’s adopted, Oliver and Emma. Oliver, the larger of the 2, was adopted from Miami-Dade Animal services in February of 2010. Jackie adopted Emma in November 2016.

A little bit more about Emma, from Jackie:

As a member of The Bearded Collie Club of Central Florida and on the list for rescues and adoptions, I was contacted when Emma, who was in a bad situation, had to be re-homed.

When Emma was given up by her previous owner she was on Benadryl, Xanax and Dramamine for separation anxiety, barking too much and getting car sick. and she was only 1 1/2 years old. When she arrived she did have some issues, but nothing that we couldn’t work together to fix. I don’t think her previous owner had ever worked with her with a trainer, she had been medicating her since she was very young. I worked with a trainer and also learned more about her breed. Bearded Collies are herding dogs. They have a lot of energy and need to have a “job”. If they don’t, they will find something to do, like patrolling the windows and barking etc. I learned that if I play fetch with her every morning, throwing her toy 20-30 times and tiring her out, she was calm and happy. I got her a special bowl so she didn’t eat so fast and worked with her and Oliver so her food aggression disappeared altogether. She is very smart and wants to learn and please. She just needed someone who would take the time.

Oliver and I are very lucky to have Emma in our family. She is a very special and incredibly sweet girl and we love her!

Great song choice and those lyrics. Ray L is coming to Charlotte and I’d love to see him even though I don’t know a lot of his music. What dream dogs to photograph too!! ReplyCancel
